Delete file with "illegal" characters - i.e. [ ]
I have a zero byte file that has a name with [square brackets] in it. I tried deleting it in DOS but no luck. I tried to rename the file and no luck. What can I do to delete this bothersome file?Fr Elise - Support the Heart & Breast Cancer Foundations. http://www.amazon.com/Gospel-Our-Lord-Jesus-Christ/dp/1449947565/ref=sr_1_15?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1265754374&sr=1-15

Hi, Since the file shows under command prompt, you can use ren <file_name> or del <file_name> command. Also try to delete the file in Safe Mode and check if the following link is helpful. http://www.askvg.com/fix-item-not-found-error-message-while-moving-files-and-folders-in-windows-7-explorer-after-installing-service-pack-1-sp1/ Note: Since the website is not hosted by Microsoft, the link may change without notice. Thanks Niki. I tried the del <file_name> command and received an error message. I then decided to do the nasty. I moved all other files from the directory. I then nuked the directory with del *.*. 0 byte gone. Now if I could just get the stupid BOLD type to turn off in this message.
